As you grow your home automation network, the need for triggers and automation using contact sensors becomes commonplace. There are a wide variety of options, but the Visionic sensor costs less than $20 online, which was the lowest priced SmartThings-native contact sensor (at time of publishing). Using the Zigbee radio network, this contact sensor is natively compatible with SmartThings, that means no custom device handlers or coding required.

Just open the box, pull the plastic tab on the battery, and tap “Add thing” in the SmartThings mobile app. You’ll see the contact sensor appear in a few seconds! (make sure to be standing near your hub during pairing)
The transmitting unit (pictured above) is powered by a CR2032 Lithium 3V battery (Available on Amazon), and measures. The Visionic Zigbee Contact Sensor is housed in a white, hard plastic shell, measuring 66x25x10mm. It’s small enough to easily conceal along window edges and trim, and perfect for white entry doors.

The boxed product includes double sided 3M tape (ample amount), with pieces cut to the exact size of each component. Also included are 2 plastic spacers used to even the surface, if needed.
